WMBS was recognized again on April 11 by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB), winning 4 awards in 2025.
Matt Sapienza was recognized for Outstanding Radio Personality and Outstanding Local Newscast. It’s the third year in a row that WMBS has won Outstanding Radio Personality and Matt’s second award in that category. Kendall Sisler won that award last year with Matt winning in 2023.
It’s the 3rd time overall that WMBS won for Outstanding Local Newscast, with former personality Mike Krcil winning the award for the station in 2010 and 2011.
For the 2nd time in 3 years Brian Mroziak and Tony Hanula won for Outstanding Play-by-Play Coverage of a Sporting Event. This year’s entry included The Laurel Highlands Lady Mustangs 1st ever State Playoff win in school history over Greater Johnstown on March 9th 2024. Mroziak and Hanula also won the award in 2023.
Winning for the 1st time this year were T.J. DiStefano and Josh Krysak, who won a Judges Merit Award for a Veterans Day Program that fielded calls from veterans from all branches of service and from proud family members remembering the service of their loved ones. It’s the 4th Judges Merit Award that WMBS has won and the 1st since 2015.
WMBS has now won 20 PAB awards since 2010. In past years, WMBS won Outstanding Local Newscast (2010 and 2011), Outstanding Radio Commercial (2012 and 2020), Outstanding Radio Series(2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018) Outstanding Radio Personality (2023, 2024), Outstanding Play-by-Play Coverage of a Sporting Event (2023) and Judges Merit Awards (2013, 2014 and 2015).
